About

A little bit about me.

My name’s Ben. I live in London where by day I ply my trade as a TV commercials director. And by night I write and study screenplay writing. Not that my aim is to be a writer. But because it’ll make me a better director. Compared to writing, directing is easy. As a director your stock and trade is your ideas. You just need to be able to communicate them and then surround yourself with people who’ll make you look good. As a writer it’s all on you. There’s no hiding. No scapegoat that you can blame it on. Or sparkly talent you can lean on to make you appear a little more shiny. It’s just you and your words. So writing is hard. Really hard.

Structure. Plot. Themes. Characters. Relationships. Dialogue. Protagonists. Antagonists. Texts. Subtexts. Wants. Desires. Needs. Insights. Psychology. Philosophy. Sociology. Semiotics. Meaning. Truth!

It’s some deep shit.

Shit that I want to learn. Hang on, that’s such an unpleasant word. It’s craft. It’s craft that I want to learn. To make me a better director. Maybe even a half decent writer. And hopefully, and this is a little ambitious, a tiny tiny tiny bit wiser about what the hell is going on…
